Password-protected links

Require a password before redirect and troubleshoot unlock prompts and cookie issues.

Password-protected links

Password protection adds a gate before a visitor can open the final destination.

When to use it

Use password protection when a link should still be shareable, but only people with the password should be able to continue to the destination.

Common examples:

  • private event resources
  • embargoed launch material
  • limited-access partner files

How the visitor experience works

  1. The visitor opens the short link.
  2. Nimriz shows a password prompt instead of redirecting immediately.
  3. After the correct password is submitted, Nimriz unlocks that specific link and redirects the visitor.
  4. Follow-up visits on the same browser can skip the prompt while the unlock is still valid.

Unlocking one protected link does not unlock other protected links.

Create or update a protected link

Depending on your current dashboard flow, you can usually add a password either:

  • while creating the link
  • or later from the link settings or edit view

If you remove the password, the link goes back to normal redirect behavior.

What to expect after a password change

  • a new password replaces the old one immediately
  • previously unlocked sessions may need to unlock again
  • copying the same short link to another browser or device still requires the password

Common issues

The prompt keeps reappearing

Possible causes:

  • the wrong password is being entered
  • the password was changed recently
  • the browser blocked or cleared the unlock cookie
  • the visitor is opening a different protected link on the same domain

The option is missing in the UI

Password protection can be plan-gated or feature-gated. If your workspace does not show the option, check with your workspace admin or support.

The redirect works in one browser but not another

That usually means only one browser has a valid unlock cookie for that specific link.

Good operating habits

  • Share the password through a different channel than the link itself.
  • Rotate the password if it was exposed too widely.
  • Test the flow in an incognito window before sharing it with customers or partners.

When to contact support

Contact support if:

  • the correct password never unlocks the link
  • the prompt loops even in a clean browser
  • the password option disappeared unexpectedly for your workspace
